2nd Chance Thrift Store in Charlotte, North Carolina proved to be a rich vein of undiscovered thrift resources.
Wilcha and Freyer overstayed their welcome at this multifamily yard sale in the picturesque suburbs of Charlotte, North Carolina.
The cashier at Thrift World was an accomplished photographer. Wilcha and Freyer requested she take their portrait.
While there were many amazing items at the Duke University Surplus store, everything was wildly overpriced. Wilcha and Freyer were disappointed and only purchased a framed anatomical chart of the human eye.

On the second night of their trip, the IAR Mobile Ambulatory Research Lab arrived at Karen Cirillo’s house in Durham, North Carolina, just as she and her boyfriend were preparing dinner. Wilcha and Freyer indulged.

After a long day of ambulance repairs and thrifting in Northern New Jersey, Wilcha and Freyer were treated to dinner by Pat and John Wilcha. Upon exiting the ambulance at the restaurant, Pat Wilcha commented, "hopefully that was the first and last ambulance ride of my life."

 

On June 20, 2002, John Freyer and Christopher Wilcha purchased an ambulance on Ebay for their IAR sponsored trip to Houston. They arranged to pay the previous owner in cash. The transaction took place in Northern New Jersey.

On June 21, 2002, CNN reported that two suspected terrorists attempted to make a cash purchase of an ambulance in Northern New Jersey.

Wilcha and Freyer are bummed about this unfortunate coincidence.
